Newscaster Cokie Roberts said :

“No matter what else they’re doing, women are also always nurturing.”

Whether we are nurturing children, relationships, ideas or creative projects, we are supporting, encouraging and empowering. It’s in our nature as women. Today being Mother’s Day, I’m thinking about these things.

(DISCLAIMER : Of course, men can be great nurturers, too. So, let’s get that out of the way right away! It’s just that I’m not talking about them today. ..lol)

So, the dictionary says:

mother: a female parent, a woman in authority, maternal tenderness or affection

nurture: to further the development of

celebrate: to honor, to demonstrate satisfaction in, to perform a ceremony, to observe a notable occasion with festivities

Let us celebrate our attention to our lives and the lives of others that is truly mothering, nurturing the highest and best. A few questions to ponder:

  • Are we good mothers to ourselves?
  • Do we take the time to nurture our bodies, ideas, dreams & relationships?
  • Do we know the difference between nurturing and enabling, in ourselves and others?
  • Are we clear about who we are, what we’re here to do and how we’re going about it?
  • Do we nurture our connection to the Universe, God, Spirit or whatever is much larger than ourselves?
  • Do we celebrate ourselves and our relationships, rather than just have expectations of them?

A few thoughts to reflect on as we catch our breath this Mother’s Day!

I hope you are feted, celebrated, acknowledged, loved and appreciated today and everyday, even if it is the person you see in the mirror that provides that.

(Of course, you can call me, email me, or write a comment below and I’ll tell you that you are a magnificent human with limitless potential, too! )

Happy Mother’s Day to you!
